Roky Erickson & The Aliens - The Evil One

In my opinion The Aliens were the best band Roky ever had backing him up. The searing lead guitar, tight rhythm section, and eerie backing vocals compliment Roky's post psychedelic (and post soul-selling) lyrics filled with zombies, aliens, and murder. He really has a unique gift for bringing a kind of innocence to horror rock. He also has one of the greatest screaming voices in rock and roll history and the ability to fit stream of consciousness rants into pop hooks without missing a beat. A true genius and I'm glad he's doing it again after all these years. The song I ever heard of his was "Night Of The Vampire", which was also on the Return Of The Living Dead soundtrack. I then got hold of "I Think Of Demons" and wore it out for years. "The Evil One" is actually the same album with three added tracks; "Click Your Fingers...", "If You Have Ghosts", and "Sputnik". So you can think of it as the "I Think Of Demons" with bonus tracks.

Tracks:

1. Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer)
2. I Think Of Demons
3. Creature With The Atom Brain
4. The Wind And More
5. Don't Shake Me Lucifer
6. Bloody Hammer
7. Stand For The Fire Demon
8. Click Your Fingers Applauding The Play
9. If You Have Ghosts
10. I Walked With A Zombie
11. Night Of The Vampire
12. It's A Cold Night For Alligators
13. Mine Mine Mind
14. Sputnik
15. White Faces

Super Heroines - Cry For Help

"Cry For Help" was the first album by the Super Heroines. Their two songs on "Hell Comes To Your House" was actually their debut and you can find that below. I only recently found this album on the net and I had never owned a copy. As I suspected it's an awesome album! Eva O's first band and quintessential California death rock. I think this is a different line-up than the rest of their records which also feature Jill Emery (later of Hole, Shadow Project, Mazzy Star) on bass. Eva, of course went on to marry Rozz Williams and played on much of his later Christian Death albums in addition sharing writing credits and vocals on all the Shadow Project stuff. Eva's throaty trembling voice and minimalist power chord guitar style put her on par with some of the rockinest of the rockinest females to grace the underground scene. If anyone has "Souls That Save" I would be very appreciative if you could give me a link!

Tracks:

1. The Beast
2. Cry For Help
3. Convicts
4. Super Heroine Theme
5. I'm Not Here
6. Red
7. Remember To Die
8. Black Wedding
9. Blue Blood
10. Run From Reality
11. Death On The Elevator
12. Embalmed Love

Hell Comes To Your House

One of the greatest compilations ever! This album introduced me to some cool shit way back when. I remember when my friend Scott got it on vinyl when we were in high school. We used to sit in his tiny room getting high, playing chess, and listen to this. This is a gem for those who are collectors and completists as well as a great start for anyone who isn't that familiar with the genre. Everything from some early Social Distortion to Christian Death, Super Heroines, and even Redd Kross covering New York Dolls. Highly recommended. I think this is out of print again. It was almost impossible to find for years (at least on the east coast). I picked up this copy at a great little record store that may still be in Asheville, North Carolina, called Green Eggs And Jams. So if you're ever in their neighborhood check 'em out.

Tracks:

1. Lude Boy - Social Distortion
2. Telling Them - Social Distortion
3. Daddy's Gone Mad - Legal Weapon
4. Puss 'N' Boots - Red Cross
5. Out Of My Head - Modern Warfare
6. Street Fightin' Man - Modern Warfare
7. Deception - Secret Hate
8. New Routine/Suicide - Secret Hate
9. Suburban Bitch - Conservatives
10. Just Cuz/Nervous - Conservatives
11. Evil - Grave
12. Concerned Citizen - Grave
13. 45 Grave - Grave
14. Dogs - Christian Death
15. Reject Yourself - 100 Flowers
16. Marry It - Rhino 39
17. Death On The Elevator - Super Heroines
18. Embalmed Love - Super Heroines

A Little Something New

It's time for a detour from videos here. After delving into the world of music blogs for a couple of years now I've seen blogs for just about every genre. There are a couple that are lacking, though, and one is Death Rock/Goth/Horror Rock etc. I've seen some that leaned toward the industrial or trance but, as a fairly old school fan of the genre, I thought there needed to be one so this is it. I'll be posting some classics and rarities here. I hope it will help rescue some stuff you may have lost from your collection or introduce you to something you may not have heard. If you are a fan of the kind of goth with imperfect makeup and guitars then bookmark me.

Now, for the first post I've chosen the Christian Death compilation "Death Club 1981-1993" This came out a few years back and it's a decent little compilation. There's some album tracks, live tracks, and even a few rare and lesser heard ones like "Dogs" from the Hell Comes To Your House compilation and even an interview with Rozz. For me, the only Christian Death was whichever one Rozz Williams was a part of. So, enjoy and check back soon for me great Death Rock albums!

Tracks:
1. Dogs
2. Deathwish
3. Cavity (First Communion)
4. Romeo's Distress
5. Cervix Couch
6. The Drowning
7. Ashes
8. The Luxury Of Tears
9. Spectre
10. Haloes
11. This Mirage
12. The Angels (Cruciform)
